Marysville Community Market every 2nd & 4th Sunday of each month.
Marysville Jazz and Blues Weekend Officially LaunchedLast Friday 29th May's launch of October's Marysville Jazz and Blues Weekend at the Marysville Community Golf and Bowls Club can only be described as a huge success.
More than 100 guests turned out for a fun evening of music, food and a screening of the iconic and ridiculous movie The Blues Brothers.
In line with the movie many came dressed as nuns, Jake and Elwood and members of the constabulary, both good and bad.
To get things moving there were some great blues and rock numbers from Bev and Leigh Fraser.
Meanwhile Russ and his team worked tirelessly in the kitchen to offer a menu to match the movie's theme. There were a few who had never experienced the movie, but many had seen it previously and awaited the oft quoted phrases such as, “We’re on a mission from God.”
If you haven't seen the movie and love a good laugh and car chase, The Blues Brothers is a must. But right now it's time to secure your tickets for the Marysville Jazz and Blues Week- end on October 16, 17 & 18, 2015.
The organising committee, chaired by Marysville local Peter Guest, has been working for months in putting together a program of some of the best jazz and blues artists from all over Victoria.
Around 30 acts will appearing on the program and one of the many highlights will be a spectacular concert in the Stadium
of the Marysville Community Centre on Saturday 17 October at 7.00pm. The warm-up act for the concert will be a performance by the Redgaters swing band from Alexandra play- ing some classic jazz and swing standards such as Glenn Miller’s In The Mood.
One of Melbourne’s premier trad and dixieland jazz bands, Shirazz, will open the night followed by award-winning blues artist Mr Black & Blues accompanied by one of Australia’s foremost musicians, Chris Wilson. The evening will be capped off by a special appearance by the band Spectrum who will be performing some great numbers, no doubt including their No. 1 hit single “I’ll be Gone.”
Tickets for this concert are strictly limited and will sell quickly and Peter Guest advised that you should get your tickets promptly if you don’t want to miss out. A performance by Wilbur Wilde will be opening the Weekend the night before at Crossways Historic Inn. Wilbur will be followed by local Bev Fraser who will be singing with the band The Company We Keep. There are too many highpoints of the weekend to list them all here now and over coming weeks we will feature some more details of bands and artists in regular updates in The Triangle.
Whilst many of the acts are free you will also have the opportunity to see some of the best
Jazz and blues performers in the state for as little as $10 per session.
