For the Love of  Evie

On Sunday the 8th March the Evie Gleeson Fun Day was held on the Trevor Harrow Oval. Organised by a group of locals that call themselves "The Evie Army", to raise funds for the Gleeson family while their youngest daughter battles leukaemia.
What a fantastic day! As one of the members of the "Army", I personally didn't expect that many people to attend. And boy was I wrong! We estimated their to be around 600 people who came and supported this fantastic fundraiser, and people came from near and far.
The weather was perfect, the tunes (provided by DJ Killa) were pumping, the kids were laughing, the Lions Club food smelled delicious, and Andrew Embling on the microphone just topped it off. Throughout the day we had Daryl Hull taking photo's and Barry Thomas videoing, so the Gleeson's would have a momento of the day.
There was a great turnout from the Marysville CFA, Buxton CFA & Marysville SES. The kids absolutely love the trucks, lights & sirens.
The kids & adults races had everyone laughing. There were egg & spoon races, three legged race, wheel barrow race, and sack races. Congratulations to the winners.
The pie eating competition was also a lot of laughs. The pies (lemon meringue) were generously donated by the Marysville Bakery, and I hear they were delicious! The winner of the kids pie eating comp was Liam who won a lolly pop from the Marysville Lolly shop and an iTunes gift card generously donated by Anne & Dek Wilson. The winner of the adults was Robert Tucknott and he received a $50 voucher from the Bun- ker. Well done to all who participated. On to the shave, and we had 20 people shaving their head. Some raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation and some raising money for the Gleesons, but all doing it in honour of Evie. What a terrific effort by all!
The emotions ran high when everyone was surprised when it was announced that we had a special appearance from Kate and gorgeous little Evie in the fire truck. Evie wanted to come down and see everyone and watch the head shavers. She knew she wasn't allowed to get out of the truck, and she was ok with that, she was just so happy to see everyone. That just made the day extra special and reminded everyone why we were there.
